Coming at you guys with another different type of post! Recently my skin has been a nightmare for acne, dryness, oiliness and basically any type of skin problem you can think of. I felt like nothing I was trying was getting it sorted and my acne was getting worse. My products and prescriptions weren't working at all and I was very fed up, so I decided to bite the bullet, be prepared to spend a lot of money and invest in some high end skincare products that are going to make an improvement on my skin, luckily there is an Ulta, Sephora and Lush about a 15 minute walk from my apartment on 86th street so I braced my credit card and went with an idea of what products I wanted.
I have used high street brands most of my life with the occasional skincare treat from liz earle or elemis or body shop but I couldn't seem to find a winning combo. Like something would make a small difference for a week then just stop being effective, and don't even get me started on stuff I've been prescribed. My local GP was completely useless in helping with products, their advice was genuinely, "Just drink more water" which isn't helpful at all. Thanks NHS. Then they FINALLY prescribed me this cream which was hit and miss with working on my skin but then they stopped making this product and the alternative they gave me was useless, it actually made my skin worse. I just stopped using it in the end.
So now here is my new updated high end skincare routine!
Kiehls Calendula Deep Cleansing Foaming Face Wash:
I am obsessed with this product, I first tried it as a sample and loved it but couldn't bring myself to spend $30.00 on face wash but after using it for a week, I can see a vast improvement in my skin with how it looks, how it feels and the lack of blocked pores. It really gets in cleans the skin without drying it. One pump of this actually covers my entire face and it's soothed my acne to not be so red and harsh. To me it has a very pleasant citrus smell, not too overpowering and it's so refreshing on a morning.
Thayers Witch Hazel Facial Toner:
I have heard so much hype about witch is hazel and how soothing it on the skin so I thought that I could do with a new toner so I got a travel size bottle so I could try it out before buying a giant bottle, maybe its because of my commitment issues but there we are. I haven't used a wipe on toner in so long but it has made a vast improvement on the oiliness of my skin and that my blackheads have mostly disappeared. Now I really don't like floral smells, especially rose but this is so subtle that I actually like the smell. It isn't too overpowering and I will be buying the big bottle next time!
Origins Clear Improvement Pore Clearing Moisturiser:
This was the most expensive product I bought but I am completely in love with it. I needed an oil free moisturiser that could help with acne and control my skin to not be such a mess and after a lot of research and reading reviews, Origins seemed to be the most suitable one and HOLY MOLY. I love this product, it feels amazing on the skin and I don't know how but it keeps my skin soft and hydrated whilst drying out and getting rid of my acne. I am now a convert and highly recommend this product for my acne sufferers.
Lush Mask of Magnaminty (Plus a sample face mask):
I used to shop in lush all the time growing up until it became over priced and I didn't fancy spending £6.00 on a bath bomb. But there is one near my house and I thught I would give it a go because I did always love their face masks and they actually did good for my skin. The staff were super lovely (compared to Ulta and Sephora like gurl I don't need your attitude because I'm not caked in make up and in my sweats) she adivsed 2 different masked but this one smelt much nicer and seemed to tick more of my boxes. She also gave me a sample of a jelly mask called The birth of venus. Both of these masks are so soothing and cleansing. My trick is to keep them in the fridge so they are cool to the skin and give it a nice refreshing boost. It wasn't as pricey as I thought it would be so many Lush is redeeming itself!
For Eye cream I dot between a Nip + Fab Eye roller and Clinique's All about Eyes cream depending on how tired I look. They are both amazing products!
Now being someone who can't really afford high end products atm I did stress out buying expensive products (doing housewife shopping) but I thought about how much I want my skin to improve and it was the choice of saving my money but having acne ridden skin or splashing out on investments and fixing my skin. It was a no brainer. It's all about sacrifices and the fact that I needed skincare and my roots bleached meant I had to give up my yoga membership for the month, cause we are yet to get a job or decent income!
I can see a clear improvement in my skin so far, the acne is being a little bit stubborn but I believe that with a consistent regime it will calm down with time and patience and a boat load of water!
